At least 39 businesses and other organizations in Central Texas will come together Wednesday to introduce themselves to returning Fort Hood troops and their families, and other Central Texas newcomers at the 2006 Newcomers Expo sponsored by the Killeen Daily Herald.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive. Admission is free.
"The show is actually open to anyone wanting to get a comprehensive overview of services in the area," said Killeen Daily Herald advertising director Tiffany Muller. "But the main idea is to give Fort Hood soldiers and families and any other newcomers an introduction or re-introduction to the area."
Exhibitors include real estate firms, health care organizations, financial planning professionals, beauty consultants, veterans organizations and social service agencies.
Co-sponsors of the event are GoArmyPC.com, Legacy Homes, Realty Executives of Killeen and Temple, The National Banks of Central Texas, Properties mart Realty, Peloton Ridge Country Club and Colonial ERA Real Estate.
Other companies and organizations confirming booths by Monday afternoon included Pathfinder Mortgage Group, Physicians of King's Daughters, Heights Beauty, Dodge Country, Skin Deep, Avon, Oasis Day Spa, Coldwell-Banker United, Clearwire, Mary Kay, Cookie Lee, Primerica Financial Services, Century 21 Premier, Century 21 Real Estate 1st Team, Visioncare, ReMax Platinum, Action Career Training, Central Texas Workforce Centers, Centex Homes, Symphony Homes, E-Z Tax, William R. Courtney State Veterans Home, First National Bank, Armadillo Properties, Skylark, Dallas Independent School District, 1st State Home Loan, Cybertex, Manpower Staffing, G&G Barbershop, American Legion Post No. 223, Bentina Homes and the Central Texas Better Business Bureau.
Door prizes will include a Microsoft training kit from GoArmyPC, a set of skin care products from Heights Beauty, a toolbox from Dodge Country, a month's free membership from Peloton Ridge, a gift certificate from Oasis Day Spa, a $50 H-E-B gift certificate and a $50 Wal-Mart gift certificate, both from Clearwire, and a duffle bag from Physicians of King's Daughters.
"We will plan future events like this with care not to draw away from other similar events, because all of them are important," Muller said. "Probably another expo will be scheduled in the spring."
