Students at Central Texas College got a first-hand look Monday at new solutions for business and technology.

The Cisco Network on Wheels mobile van stopped by the walkway behind the CTC student center for students to get a personal demonstration of the latest topics in technology.

Cisco specialists offered demonstrations on data security, wireless networking, unified communications and network management.

Eric Hardy, Cisco's account manager for CTC, said the mobile unit helps showcase the latest technology for those who would usually have to drive a long distance to a Cisco store.

"This way we can drive up to the customer and they can spend a few minutes seeing the new technology," Hardy said.

The closest Cisco store to the CTC campus would be Austin or Richardson, Hardy said.

The NOW van comes to the Killeen area every six months, Hardy said.

The mobile unit also travels to schools, banks, independent school districts and technology companies, said Chacedi Allen, network specialist for Cisco.

Allen said Cicso takes the mobile units all across Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma to show its account holders the new technology.

"We want to give customers exposure to and demonstrate features they may not be using," Allen said.

CTC also provides a Cisco network academy as part of its curriculum, Hardy said. Three students from the academy came to view the first demonstration Monday.

People who came by the van listened to demonstrations where the specialists walked through each target of new technology.

"We want to open their eyes to the latest in technology and enable them to use it in their education," Hardy said.
