Drizzly weather is moving out of Central Texas as a cold front bringing dry air is moving in.

"There's going to be a lot of wind Saturday," News Channel 6 meteorologist Nick Piesco said in an interview Friday afternoon.

While temperatures will bottom out in the upper 20s, Piesco said he does not expect any precipitation this weekend.

With the cold front in place, Piesco said the fog may leave with the warm front.

"It has been a little bit weird," Piesco said about the frequency of fog lately.

The fog occurs when the surface air is cool and warm air is rising.

"The moisture condenses and that's why," Piesco said.

National Weather Service forecaster Marianne Sutton said it will be cold and getting colder Saturday.

"All the rain will have completely moved out of the area," Sutton said.

She expects temperatures by early evening to be in the 40s and dropping.

While winds are expected to reach 30 mph Saturday, she said wind speed usually slows after a cold front moves through. She said winds will be blowing at 10 to 15 mph from the northwest Saturday night.

Several outgoing flights at the Killeen/Fort Hood Regional Airport were canceled Friday because of fog and low visibility.

"We typically, 2 to 5 percent of the time, have weather at the airport that causes low visibility," said John Sutton, Killeen director of aviation. "This time of year, we typically have low ceiling and delays."

Incoming flights were also delayed and canceled because of weather, but not in Central Texas.

"While weather is at a minimal both here and in Dallas, the weather in the Northeast is keeping out airplanes into Dallas in the first place," Sutton said.

Many incoming flights to Killeen go through Dallas-Forth Worth Airport.

"It is rolling down hill, and we're at the bottom of the hill right now," Sutton said Friday.

The status of flights at the Killeen/Fort Hood Regional Airport can be found at www.flykilleen.net.
