Killeen residents will gather Friday to mark construction of the new Bell Haven Nursing Center, which will replace the oldest nursing home facility in the area.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at 3816 S. Clear Creek Road, next to the Elms Creek Family/Urgent Care Clinic in southwest Killeen.

The new facility will replace a 33-year-old brick building at 1002 Medical Drive in north Killeen, says administrator Lane Cross.

The building is old and outdated, he said. There are only so many renovations you can do on it.

The property will eventually be sold, he said.

The current nursing center has 150 beds, but well have a somewhat smaller new facility with 120 beds that offer the same services, Cross said.

House Cross Associates is a locally owned and operated family business, now under the management of a second generation of the Cross family. His mother retired four years ago, he said.

The company has now expanded to five nursing centers in the Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove area, including one assisted living center.

We employ between 650 and 700 people, he said. One has been with us for 23 years.

Were all very excited, he said of the new facility.
