Crime to dominate council workshop

Crime tops the list for Killeen City Council discussions scheduled for Tuesday.

A recent annual report ranked Killeen No. 5 among the most dangerous cities in Texas. Killeen also has the highest burglary rate among Texas cities with a population of more than 100,000.

Police Chief Dennis Baldwin will brief the council on these issues.

The council will also hear a briefing from City Attorney Kathy Davis about consumption of alcohol by minors at Bring-Your-Own-Beverage establishments. Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving asked the City Council to look at the issue after minors allegedly consumed alcohol at a local club and were involved in a traffic accident later. The driver, according to police reports, was sober.

This discussion had been deferred pending a response from the Texas Attorney General. The city has received a response and Davis will tell the council about it.

The council is also slated to discuss continued taxation of goods in transit, hear a quarterly financial report, hear a briefing on city project timelines and discuss annexation study areas.

The workshop begins at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 101 N. College St.
