A former janitor at Ellison High School was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday for having sex with an 8-year-old boy last year.
Judge C.W. Duncan sentenced Wayne Rogers, 35, of Killeen, to 25 years in a Texas Department of Corrections penitentiary for the first-degree felony of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
It was the first felony conviction for Rogers, who faced a maximum punishment of 99 years in prison for the crime.
Court records indicate that just before his trial was scheduled to start, Rogers agreed to plead guilty to the charge, which listed the date of the offense as Dec. 19, 2006.
Bob Massey, spokesman for the Killeen Independent School District, said Saturday he could not confirm Rogers' employment at Ellison High School, which is noted in the court file. He said KISD had no comment.
The arrest affidavit said Harker Heights police were summoned Dec. 19, 2006, to the home of the victim's mother. She told officers that Rogers sodomized her son, who was then 8 years old, and forced him to have oral sex as well.
The boy was later interviewed at the Children's Advocacy Center, and he described the assault in detail.
The affidavit said the assaults occurred primarily at the victim's home while his mother was away visiting family, but the victim indicated it had happened at least once before in Killeen.
