BELTON A Feb. 14, 2005, trial date has been set for a Killeen man accused of murdering two Harker Heights men and critically injuring a woman.
The trial will take place in Judge Martha Trudos 264th District Court.
Leroy Mott, 65, is charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted capital murder in connection with the killing of Lt. Col. Reginald T. Singleton, 38, and David Singleton Jr., 58, and the attempted murder of Tomiko Davis, 28, on March 18 at the colonels home at 415 Arapaho Drive in Harker Heights.
Both Reginald and David Singleton were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Garland K. Potvin. Davis was critically wounded in the shooting.
According to police, the motivation behind the killing was the divorce between Dr. Singleton and his ex-wife and Motts daughter, Deidre Mott Singleton.
The punishment for capital murder is either the death penalty or life in prison.
In other action Thursday, Trudo sentenced Ricky Lawerence Jingles, 21, of Temple to four years in prison, with credit for 200 days, for a May 9, 2001, charge of robbery.
Jingles was placed on probation Aug. 2, 2001, for the charge. Due to probation violations, including failure to show, Trudo sentenced him to four years in jail.
According to court records, Jingles, along with another unidentified man, robbed Cory Michael King, who worked for Circuit City in Temple. The two men knocked King to the ground and took his wallet and cell phone.
In other court news Thursday, Judge Trudo sentenced:
n Albert Sanchez, 44, of Temple to 10 years in jail, to be probated for 10 years for an Aug. 31, 2003, felony of driving while intoxicated.
n Eduardo Cardoza, 27, of Temple to five years of deferred probation and a $1,000 fine for an April 24 charge of evading arrest in a vehicle.
n Thurlow Ronnie Johnson Jr. 27, of Killeen to eight years in prison, with a credit of 139 days, for a May 14 charge of burglary of a habitation.
Judge Joe Carroll of the 27th District Court sentenced Frederick Daniel Boswell Jr., 31, of Troy to 25 years in prison for a Dec. 27, 2003, charge of aggravated sexual assault.
