BELTON A 59-year-old Killeen school teacher was sentenced Thursday to five years deferred probation and a $1,000 fine for sexually harassing a student.
Emory Leon Bitterman was sentenced by retired Judge C.W. Duncan in the 27th District Court on a Sept. 28 charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student.
According to the arrest affidavit, Bitterman, an instructor at the American Preparatory Institute of Central Texas College, invited a 17-year-old male student to his house in Killeen to give him some help with class work in the computer course Bitterman taught.
The student and a friend stopped by Bittermans home where Bitterman gave the student the answers to all the questions on a test. The teacher told the student that he was going to give him an award and pulled up a Web site on his computer for the student to look at.
The victim told police that Bitterman grabbed at him and kept asking the student about him and his male friend. Bitterman also kept grabbing at the victims friend.
The affidavit states that when the student and his friend tried to leave, the student ended up pulling a knife on his teacher.
As a condition of his probation, Bitterman is not allowed to be employed in any secondary or primary schools, and he is not to have any contact with the victim or his family.
