HARKER HEIGHTS – The City Council today will discuss revisions to the city's comprehensive at a 3 p.m. workshop at City Hall.
The city's comprehensive plan entails a list of goals and objectives the council will use in making future decisions relating to the physical growth of the city. The plan also addresses the future of every municipal department and focuses on the city's appearance along with quality of life issues.
"It will guide future decision making to get us where our citizens want us to go," said Dr. Ray Shanaa, director of planning and development, in a May interview. "Unfortunately in some places, plans are shelved and never looked at again. In Harker Heights we intend to use them."
Shanaa said the comprehensive plan is designed to reflect what the city thinks the residents want.
"And I say this based on comments we have heard as well as reports that were written by citizen focus groups that were involved a few years ago," Shanaa said.
The council was scheduled to discuss the revised comprehensive plan at the May 30 workshop, but was limited on time because of discussions on the proposed zoning changes affecting multifamily housing.
The council will also discuss proposed home occupation regulations and will discuss feelings on the Memorial Day celebration.
