The Harker Heights City Council will discuss and consider updating the city's parks master plan at a 5 p.m. meeting today.

Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Bark will present the changes to the master plan for the department.

This presentation comes after collecting information from residents at four public meetings and via an online survey conducted in June.

At those meetings, Bark informed residents of the current plans for updating and creating several parks in the area.

Those plans included the redesign of Summit Soccer Fields to fit six adult fields where smaller fields can be placed and the creation of the Harker Heights softball and baseball complex.

Residents who participated in the meeting contributed ideas to improve the city parks.

The online survey had more than 200 participants by the end of the public hearings, but it ran for several more weeks.

The City Council also will make decisions on the following:

A possible amendment to the 2008-09 fiscal year budget.

A possible contract for the lease of a 2008 Vactor 2110 combination sewer cleaner to Wells Fargo.

A possible adoption of an identity theft prevention program.

The possible signing of a memorandum of understanding between Fort Hood, Killeen, Gatesville, Copperas Cove and Harker Heights to develop and implement the Central Texas Sustainable Skyline Initiative to promote sustainability in Central Texas through voluntary programs.

The City Council meets in the Kitty Young Council Chambers at City Hall, 305 Miller's Crossing.
