The Harker Heights City Council will discuss updating its land use plan at a 3 p.m. meeting today.

The plan helps city staff and the City Council make decisions about how land in the city is used.

"It indicates the future land uses for all areas of the city that the City Council has deemed as promoting the public health and welfare," states the Harker Heights Comprehensive Plan. Also written in the land use plan are guidelines for how certain types of development such as various densities of residential developments, commercial developments, and manufacturing or industrial developments, should be used throughout the city.

Also on the agenda:

An update about Texas Department of Public Transportation projects in Harker Heights.

An update on the 2009 Memorial Day event.

The Harker Heights City Council meets in the Kitty Young Council Chamber in City Hall, 305 Millers Crossing.
