The vacant seat at the end of the Killeen City Council panel might not remain empty for much longer.

Mayor Maureen Jouett said the majority of councilmen have contacted her with names of potential replacements to finish the remaining term of office for Dan Corbin.

Corbin, the Ward 1 representative, resigned his seat after the Sept. 13 council meeting to pursue the District 54 seat in the state Legislature.

At todays meeting, the council will have the opportunity to discuss and possibly choose a new member.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. in City Hall at 101 N. College St. The meeting will be preceded by a workshop at 4 p.m.

The city charter allows for an appointment to the council if there is only one vacancy.

The appointment will last until the next ward election in May 2007.

Jouett said she didnt see a purpose in going through an application process when several council members have already expressed interest in specific people.

Theyre going to have to fight it out, she said.

The council will also have the opportunity to move forward on the project to bring Shilo Inn to Killeen by approving the sale of the 5.7-acre tract to the Killeen Economic Development Corporation for about $1 million, the appraised value of the property.

The KEDC will then sell the property to Shilo Management Corporation for $555,000.

KEDC President John Crutchfield said the reduced price has been negotiated as an incentive for the hotel.

In the future agreement between the KEDC and Shilo, Crutchfield said it will be negotiated that if certain requirements are not met, the company will be in default and have to pay back the incentive as well.

In other business, the council will consider:

n adopting a policy to waive water utility deposits and new account fees for hurricane evacuees.

n authorizing a bid for the State Highway 195 Wastewater Improvement Project.

n rejecting a bid for the Hill Country Community Action Association Multi-Service Senior Center Parking Lot Improvement Project.

n amending the police department and golf course 2004-05 budgets.
