KISD board honors students, staff

Members of the Killeen Independent School District board of trustees congratulated students, staff and school campuses Thursday night at an awards and recognition ceremony at Shoemaker High School.

"We want to honor our students and staff in a special setting," said board president Brenda Coley.

Before recognizing the honorees, KISD System Superintendent Jim Hawkins reviewed the recently released Academic Excellence Indicator System statistics for the district as it compared to all other state districts. Overall, KISD compared favorably to state averages in all areas of academic studies.

"I think it just demonstrates how the staff and students are working hard. This is a way to acknowledge growth," Hawkins said.

n UCA All-Star Cheerleader – Katie Hobson, Killeen High

n 2007 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist – Joshua Lee, Harker Heights High

n 2007 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students – Evan D. Ollivant, Harker Heights High; Allen J. Travis, Harker Heights High; Zack McWhirter, Killeen High; Michael Brauchle, Shoemaker High; Shahan Rabbani, Shoemaker High
