Leo Buckley Stadium is having a new video board installed at no cost to Killeen taxpayers.

The 25-foot tall, 40-foot long big screen is being installed by Daktronics, which found local businesses to purchase advertisements that cover the cost of the equipment.

Athletic Director Martin Allen said it took about 1 years to get the $700,000 needed from local business advertisements to get the high-tech screen.

"Lots of other venues have this type of technology," Allen said. "For me, it was a no-brainer."

The video board functions as a combined scoreboard and giant television, said Randy Hudson, audio and video technician for KISD.

"It will give us the capability of putting virtually any video content on the scoreboard along with replays and clips from the game," Hudson said.

Husdon said the district eventually wants to show a roster of the football players, a calender for upcoming events and graphic animations.

The screen will also display shots from each of the six cameras on the field, which are operated by students.

Hudson said the director who coordinates the cameras and video board is a staff member, but the district hopes to give students the opportunity to run the big screen after more training.

The scoreboard and 25-second clocks will be fully operational by this Friday's game between the Killeen High School Kangaroos and the Ellison High School Eagles, Allen said.

By the following week, the remainder of the video board will be functional, he added.

"We're excited that it's finally here," Allen said. "I'm ready to get out there and see what it can do."

He said a new sound system will also be installed with the scoreboard. Hudson said the audio-video department is still working on the logistics on the screen and they also want to find more students to help run the cameras on game nights.

Hudson said any company wishing to run advertisements on the video board screen has to go through Daktronics. Those who are interested can contact the company through their Web site at
