GATESVILLE – A guilty verdict was returned Thursday afternoon for a Copperas Cove man charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a child, District Clerk Janice Gray said.

The nine-woman, three-man jury found 52-year-old Amos Jackson Sr. guilty on all charges in connection with the sexual abuse of a child over a two-year period beginning when the girl was 11.

Testimony in the punishment phase was under way Thursday afternoon.

Jackson faces from 5 to 99 years in prison and an optional $10,000 fine for the first-degree felony.

The jury was selected Monday from a pool of 300 prospective jurors, and testimony began Tuesday in the 52nd District Court trial.

Judge Phillip Zeigler is presiding, Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ferguson-Gilbert is lead prosecutor and District Attorney David Castillo is the secondary prosecutor.

Jackson is being represented by James H. Kreimeyer of Belton.

A Coryell County grand jury indicted Jackson in December 2005 on seven counts, including three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and four counts of indecency with a child.

Six of the counts, including all three of the aggravated assault charges, involve one female victim and were consolidated for the trial, currently under way, according to an official in the district attorney's office.

A seventh charge of indecency with a child involved a separate female victim, and it is unknown at this time how that case will be handled.
