The Killeen school district has named a third assistant superintendent.
The decision was made late Tuesday to appoint Dr. Robert W. Muller to the newly created position of assistant superintendent for administration and operations. He has a one-year contract and will garner a salary of $101,204.
Muller joins the two already established assistant superintendents, for education services and business services, respectively.
Muller has been with the Killeen Independent School District since August 2003 as executive director for student services.
I have a great affection for KISD, Muller said. The district is really a fine place to work and a great educational institution.
Before coming to KISD, Muller was chief of staff at the Texas Education Agency in Austin. From February 1999 to April 2002, Muller was associate commissioner for continuing education and school improvement at TEA.
Muller also spent time as the superintendent for Van Alstyne ISD, a 1,000-student district near Dallas from 1995 to 1999; an administrator in the Ector County ISD; principal of University High School in Waco; and a teacher and coach in Lewisville ISD.
The position of assistant superintendent for administration and operations was borne of a plan to reorganize the central administration, which the school board approved in February. The position is the people component of the three assistant superintendentships and deals largely with taking care of the staff and students in the district.
Muller, who already has had his hand in student services, said he is looking forward to the added responsibility of human resources.
The directors for personnel services, employee relations, auxiliary personnel and district student hearings will all answer to Muller. He also will have his hand in parent involvement, guidance and counseling, health services and professional management and services.
The third assistant superintendent position is just one of seven new positions the school board approved in February. Positions yet to be filled include four executive instructional leaders, to whom all campus principals will answer.
Hawkins said previously that he hopes to have all the administrators up and running by July.
