State and federal officials aided by city police Wednesday morning arrested an Ohio man at a Killeen hotel who was sought on an Ohio warrant charging him with possession and distribution of child pornography by computer.

Robert Edward Miller was taken into custody around 8 a.m. by the Killeen Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service, Western District of Texas Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, in coordination with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force after leading deputy U.S. marshals from Ohio to Texas, said Peter J. Elliott, U.S. marshal for the Northern District of Ohio.

Miller was arrested without incident Wednesday morning at the Sunrise Motel at 527 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Killeen.

Miller was wanted by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force for allegedly receiving and distributing child pornography via the computer, said David Siler, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Office in Cleveland.

"Deputy U.S. marshals identified that Miller fled Ohio to Texas just prior to the issuance of the warrant on Jan. 29," said Siler, noting Miller is facing a maximum of 20 years in federal prison on the charges.

Desperate and on the run, Miller fled to his familiar stomping grounds of Texas, Siler said. Miller was previously enlisted in the Army, had lived in Killeen and worked on Fort Hood.

"At the time of his arrest, Miller was in possession of an alias Ohio driver's license and an alias Social Security card," Siler said. "In addition, Miller had a soldier of fortune-type magazine which detailed how a person could remain hidden from law enforcement and documents to obtain a false birth certificate. Miller was looking to flee the country."

Siler said Miller also was charged and convicted of identity fraud in 2004 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

"The arrest of Robert Miller reinforces the partnerships developed nationwide by the United States Marshals Service and without the assistance of the Killeen Police Department and The United States Marshals Service, Western District of Texas, Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Robert Miller would still be on the run," Elliott said.
