HARKER HEIGHTS – A 19-year-old Fort Hood soldier, who is absent without leave, was jailed Tuesday on charges he broke into a woman's home and sexually assaulted her Saturday.

A 37-year-old woman reported that a man sexually assaulted her about 1 a.m. after he broke a window to get into her home in southeast Harker Heights, a police department news release stated.

Heights police arrested Jonathan Matthew Baker without incident Tuesday in Killeen.

According to an arrest affidavit, Baker used a credit card stolen from the victim at an area gas station. A photograph taken at the store was posted in the police department. A Heights officer recognized the man in the photograph as Baker, whom he had pulled over recently during a traffic stop.

The victim identified Baker in a photo lineup as the person who burglarized and assaulted her.

Baker was arraigned Wednesday on charges of burglary of a habitation and sexual assault.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set bond at $100,000 on the burglary charge and $200,000 on the sexual assault charge.

The case has been turned over to the Bell County District Attorney's Office. Baker is AWOL from the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. The unit is serving in Afghanistan.

Police Chief Mike Gentry was unavailable to answer questions Wednesday.
