LAMPASAS - When they "get away," these gals like to give back.
The Get'away Gals, a group of women from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, gather for different camping trips once a month and visit cities all over the Lone Star State.
On Saturday, they're celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Lampasas, and giving residents a chance to view and tour members' vintage recreation vehicles from 1 to 3 p.m. at Boone RV Park, 1907 S. U.S. Highway 281.
Jo Wilhelm, hostess for the gals' March "get'away," said about half the trailers are vintage and some of the group's members decorate them inside and out.
"Every place we go, people see the little old trailers," said Wilhelm. "Some people are so curious, but they don't want to be intrusive, or they're terribly intrusive, so we say you're welcome to come - just come between 1 and 3."
During the tours, the gals will collect donations to benefit the Lampasas Boys & Girls Club.
"We like to give back to any community we visit, so we said to the gals at Boone RV that we could show the trailers for a few hours, and they could take a donation as long as they give it to a local charity," said Wilhelm.
Michael Blount, branch director at the Boys & Girls Club, said the donations would go to program supplies for the club's members, such as games and arts and crafts.
Carolyn Brown, owner of Boone RV Park, said people arrive in Lampasas from all over the country with their RVs.
"We'd like for people to come and see the RVs on Saturday," she said. "They love to have people come and they like to show off what they've done to their RVs."
Get'away Gals will begin arriving in the middle of the week, and will spend their time in Lampasas enjoying local shops and restaurants, including corned beef and cabbage at the Lucky Ranch Grill on Saturday.
