A one-car rollover accident Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 190 westbound outside Fort Hood’s main gate killed one and left another in serious condition, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Harpin Myers.

Between 2:15 and 2:30 a.m., the car was traveling at an “excessive speed” before the driver lost control and hit a guardrail, which came through the vehicle, Myers said. The force of the collision ejected the driver and caused the car to roll over several times.

A passenger was killed and the driver remains in serious condition, Myers said. Responding officers found alcohol in the car.

“It’s more than likely that alcohol was involved,” Myers said.

Police haven’t released the identities of the two.

More information will be given as it becomes available.
