The good news is the Copperas Cove downtown revitalization project is scheduled to be completed by the middle of October.

The bad news is residents will have another detour between Avenue D and E for three days.

The city began the downtown revitalization project on Jan. 16. The project is divided into three phases, with construction to be completed in three phases. Phase I included work on Avenue D, between First and Main streets; Phase II worked on Avenue D, between Main and Second streets; and Phase III being Avenue D, between Third and First streets.

The contractor is nearing completion of Phase II, the final phase of the project. For the past several weeks both eastbound lanes of Avenue D, between Main and Second streets have been temporarily closed. In addition to this existing closure, South Second Street will be closed between Avenue D and Avenue E from Monday through Wednesday.

A detour has been established around the construction site, as follows:

Motorists traveling north or south on Main Street will not be permitted to turn east onto Avenue D.

Motorists traveling east on Avenue D must either turn north or south on Main Street.

Motorists will be unable to turn onto South Seconds Street from either Avenue D or Avenue E.

“We encourage the public, both pedestrians and motorists, to use caution while traveling in and around the designated construction site,” Copperas Cove Public Information Officer Kevin Keller said in a press release.

Any questions should be directed to Keller at kkeller@copperascovetx.gov or 254-547-4221.
