HARKER HEIGHTS — Since the City Council approved the creation of Heights Overlay District No. 1 along Farm-to-Market 2410 in December, city staff has identified other areas adjacent to the corridor that could be added to encourage harmonious growth.
During a workshop meeting Tuesday, Fred Morris, director of planning and development, presented council members with a plan to possibly expand the corridor to include an area north of FM 2410 and south of FM 3481, Cedar Knob and Chaparral roads.
Morris said the overlay district is intended to help the city improve the appearance and quality of development. Only nonresidential development will be impacted by the district, City Manager David Mitchell said.
“Should any property be zoned for residential, and developed as such, the corridor’s requirements are not applied,” Mitchell said. Pending further research by city staff, the expansion of the overly district will be re-examined by the council at a later date.
