At least one fatality has been reported due to vehicle accidents on icy roads in Central Texas this morning.

State police and the Bell County Sheriff's Department have responded to more than 25 crashes in rural Bell County today, according to the sheriff's department.

A  large number of those occurred on Interstate 35 near Mile Marker 278. One of those accidents was reported as a fatal.

Local police and firefighters are also responding to multiple accidents this morning in Killeen, Harker Heights and Nolanville.

The Killeen Police Department issued a warning to drivers of icing on local roads and bridges. The department stated it closed the W.S. Yong Drive bridge between Veteran's Memorial Boulevard and Racier Avenue due to icing.

Several accidents were reported along U.S. Highway 190 in Killeen, on or near overpasses.

The department said it received reports of accidents on the following roadways:

  • U.S. 190 at W.S. Young Drive
  • Highway 201 at Fort Hood Road
  • Willow Springs at U.S. 190
  • U.S. 190 at Fort Hood Street
  • State Highway 195 at the Lampasas River Bridge
  • U.S. 190 at the Fort Hood main gate

The department is asking drivers to avoid roadways, and give crews time to sand and de-ice the roads.

There is a chance of freezing drizzle before noon, then a slight chance of drizzle or freezing drizzle afterwards, according to the national weather service. Tonight's forecast is mostly cloudy with a low around 26.
