Killeen Police vehicles lined the inside median of U.S. Highway 190 at the Rosewood Overpass construction site Thursday morning where speed limits were recently decreased by 5 miles per hour — from 60 to 55 mph.
Starting at 6:30 a.m. around seven police cruisers and three motorcycles engaged in continuous traffic stops, said Tony Binion, service manager at Caliber Collision, who had been watching the traffic stops all morning.
"It boggles my mind that people don't get it. You have to do the speed limit," Binion said."(The police) don't even turn off their engines. Thirty seconds and boom they're gone."
The stretch of U.S. 190 under enforcement, between Stan Schlueter Loop and the Harker Heights city limits, is set to see two major improvements over the next two years.
Both the $23 million Rosewood Overpass project and the $55 million U.S. 190 widening project are expected to be completed by fall of 2015.
