With the current wave of winter weather throughout the weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation, Waco District, is assuring motorists that crews are on standby to apply traction and de-icing materials to icy roads as necessary.

TxDOT officials said motorists need to remember to slow down, maintain at least three times the normal following distance, and use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas.

Officials said if a vehicle begins to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes and steer into the direction of the skid until regaining traction.

Road conditions will be updated frequently at www.drivetexas.org.
