COPPERAS COVE — The Texas Department of Transportation tentatively scheduled lane changes today for westbound U.S. Highway 190 entering the city.

The lanes changes, which will reroute traffic from detoured, temporary lanes to the permanent U.S. 190 westbound roadway, are scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to a TxDOT news release.

TxDOT spokesman Ken Roberts said the contractor for the nearly $39 million State Highway 9 project will be striping the roadway and rerouting traffic during evening and morning hours.

Traffic is expected to be reduced to one lane, but the work should only take one night.

“When folks start their morning commute, they should just follow the route,” Roberts said.

“They should just follow the designated traffic patterns.”

Also Tuesday night, the Robert Griffin III Boulevard crossover temporarily will close to allow the contractor to move the temporary traffic signals at that location and adjust striping, the news release stated.

Contractors will be able to complete the abutment to the U.S. 190 and Highway 9 interchange once traffic has been rerouted from the temporary lanes.

Once completed, Highway 9 will take traffic on a 3.2-mile loop, from eastern Copperas Cove to north Farm-to-Market 116.

The roadway is expected to be completed later this year.
