COPPERAS COVE — Two businesses are expanding operations by moving to the Five Hills shopping center.

Navy Federal Credit Union and Benchmark Family Dentistry both confirmed they will open new locations in the shopping center later this year.

“This is another new branch that is going to allow us to serve our strong member presence that is out there in Copperas Cove,” said Michele Foster, area manager for Navy Federal.

Navy Federal, a more than 4 million-member credit union, opened its first store in the area at Market Heights in 2009. The Cove location should open by September.

“(The Harker Heights) branch is doing well,” Foster said. “Because of that branch, it is letting us open the new location in Copperas Cove.”

The credit union, which services military personnel, veterans and their families, has many members living in Cove and the surrounding area, Foster said.

“It is a great way to catch both ends of our membership to make sure we are there for them,” Foster said.

About 4,000 square feet was leased for the facility, said Raleigh Miller, a Navy Federal spokesman. The facility will be a full-service credit union with lending, mortgage, savings, checking and other operations.

Benchmark Family Dentistry

Benchmark Family Dentistry has been operating in Cove since September 2009, but it is moving to Five Hills in late May or early June to increase its space.

“It allows us to get into a brand new facility, (and) we get to customize the office layout for the best patient use,” said Michelle Clemens, the office coordinator.

Benchmark will increase its treatment rooms to 12 from seven and hire two more dentists and add 1½ dental hygienist positions.

“We are going to have 25 percent more time with that much more space,” said Gayla Fossum, owner of Fossum Dental Group, which operates Benchmark. “We are going to have an extra 120 hours of provider time for Copperas Cove residents and our military residents.”

Both Clemens and Foster said locating to Five Hills will improve the visibility of their businesses.

“We thought it would be great for exposure because of the surrounding businesses in the marketplace,” Clemens said.

The variety of businesses locating there make the location convenient for residents and those who are visiting the shopping center, Foster said.
