LAMPASAS — From Monday to Wednesday, drivers traveling near Fourth Street or Loop 257 will notice the last phase of paving work taking place along driveways and cross streets.

In addition, Loop 257 will be closed to all traffic from Key Avenue (U.S. Highway 183) to the Sulphur Creek Bridge from 6 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes during this time.

“Police Chief Tim Angermann was out there talking to the contractor, and it looks like their goal is to do a final lift on that pavement, and they’re hoping to come in, put concrete down and open that street up shortly thereafter,” City Manager Finley deGraffenried told city officials last week.

Texas Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Darah Waldrip said road crews will work during non-peak hours to avoid traffic congestion.

“The work will take place after hours during the evening to minimize any disruption of the traffic,” Waldrip said. “There have been intersection closures throughout the project, and the alternate route (detour) for this phase will depend on the traffic flow in the area.”

Although this phase is scheduled to be completed Thursday, Waldrip said there will be some additional minor work needed.

The project should wrap up by the end of the year if weather conditions and unexpected delays don’t interfere.

The project involves a major rehabilitation of the roadway from Fourth Street at Key Avenue to Sulphur Creek and includes pavement surfacing, restructuring curbs and gutters, storm drain improvements and decorative lighting.

“We are definitely on track with this project. This has been a significant project for Lampasas that began in early October of last year, and it will be a tremendous improvement once it’s complete,” Waldrip said.
