Vietnam veteran Stanley Harvey decided Veterans Day was as good asany day to breathe life into a flag a friend gave him three years ago.
Billowing above Moose Lodge 2179, 125 W. Veterans Memorial Blvd in Harker Heights, the flag was flown over the headquarters of Special Operations-Task Force West at Camp Mowsoot in Ramadi, Iraq on March 1, 2010.
“Having it fly now is better than it sitting in a box collecting dust in my house,” he said. “It looks pretty good up there.”
Harvey raised the flag Nov. 10 in honor of Veterans Day and said the flag will come down at sunset Saturday.
“When we came back from the war, we were spit at and called every name in the book,” said Berry Harrison, a fellow Vietnam veteran and junior governor of the Moose Lodge. “It’s important to show our respect for those who serve and have served and to recognize service.”
