Vision Lampasas hosts Squared Silly event

Posted

LAMPASAS — Families looking for a hauntingly good time this weekend are invited to attend the annual Squared Silly event in Lampasas today.

Sponsored by Vision Lampasas, the event will treat guests to a variety of rides, games and contests.

“We call it Squared Silly because it’s held around our downtown courtyard square,” said Vision Lampasas president Diana Hodges.

Activities for children include a bounce house, mini-train, the Not So Scary Haunted House, costume contests, hot dogs, face painting and fishing booths. Some merchants will be open during the event to offer free candy to Squared Silly festival-goers.

“The event provides a real, old-fashioned family night geared mostly toward kids to give them a safe environment for enjoying Halloween activities,” Hodges said. For the first time this year, Squared Silly also will feature a haunted house for adults. The event is a fundraiser for local youth organizations, Hodges said.

“We try to make it as inexpensive as we can, but it is an opportunity for the youth organizations to make a little bit of money,” she said. “One previous year, the haunted house made about $600 for that one group.”

Lampasas library clerk Heather Bailey said this is the second year the library’s Teen Advisory Group will participate in the Squared Silly event. “We have about five kids in our group representing the library, and they’ll be working the mini, silly train for kids,” Bailey said. “All the money our group raises will go toward their landscaping project to help with the library expansion project.

Some of the activities are free, and tickets can be purchased for others. The children’s haunted house is $2 per person, and the adult haunted house is $4 per person. The family events take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The adult haunted house for ages 17 and older is open from 8:30 to 11 p.m., at 409 Third St., Lampasas.
