Paul Wikoff, president of the Lions Club Senior Center senior council, center, presents a certificate to a volunteer with the help of Debbie Edwards and Margo Coster.

More than 100 volunteers were recognized Monday at an appreciation celebration hosted by the Bell County Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the Lions Club Senior Center in Killeen.

Paul Wikoff, president of the center’s senior council, presented certificates to each volunteer, while Debbie Edwards, senior center activities director, and Margo Coster, Bob Gilmore Center activities director, shared words of praise for the volunteers.

“Continuing to work together is the key,” Wikoff said. “We’re doing a phenomenal job so far and I want to see it continue that way.”

Miguel and Linda Vasquez, newlyweds who met through the volunteer program, were among the honorees.

“When you volunteer, you give part of your heart to help someone else; and it helps us, too,” Linda Vasquez said. She has served as a party and dance chairman, but the couple helps out wherever they are needed.

Wikoff said the volunteer program has had some phenomenal accomplishments this year.

“If there are others who want to volunteer, there are lots of places where we can put them to work,” he said.
