GATESVILLE - A former Fort Hood soldier was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to murder in the 52nd Judicial District Court.

Brandon Christopher Walker, 20, entered his guilty plea Tuesday to avoid a jury trial, which was set to begin today. With a trial, Walker faced the possibility of receiving the death penalty, according to the Coryell County District Attorney's office.

Walker may be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Walker was charged with capital murder in the Jan. 14, 2010, shooting death of Frank Schreiber, 22, also a

Fort Hood soldier.

Walker and Travis Vershun Brazil, 22, were accused of killing Schreiber at his home in the 1000 block of Cove Avenue in Copperas Cove.

Schreiber was found dead at the scene when Copperas Cove paramedics arrived.

It was determined he had been shot multiple times with a 12-gauge shotgun during a robbery around 10 p.m.

His wife, Leila K. Schreiber, also 22 at the time, was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with a gunshot wound in the upper left torso, from which she recovered.

Walker was represented by Waco attorney Russ Hunt Sr.

Brazil's capital murder trial is scheduled to begin in March.
