A cold front that passed through Central Texas overnight will have temperatures continually dropping throughout the day and into the weekend.

Mark Fox, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, said cold air will start to filter in throughout the day today.

Fox said rain will start this morning and carry over into tonight and Friday morning.

“Friday morning is going to be the tricky part,” he said. “Is it going to be rain, is it going to be freezing rain or is it going to be sleet? Right now, we are thinking it’s going to be mostly rain mixed with freezing rain.”

Fox said the high today and Friday will be around 40 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 50 percent chance of rain today with temperatures expected to fall to around 40 degrees by 9 a.m. and to around 30 degrees tonight with an 80 percent chance of rain.

Friday is expected to look similar with a 50 percent chance of freezing rain or sleet before noon. The low Friday night is predicted to be around 23 degrees.

The possibility of freezing rain and sleet will continue into Saturday with a 40 percent chance and a high near 31 degrees with a 30 percent chance of freezing rain and sleet into Saturday night, and a low around 28 degrees.

Temperatures will creep back up Sunday to a high near 39 degrees and a low around 32 degrees, and a 30 percent chance of rain during the day. Fox said his best advice is to continuously monitor the weather closely.

Fox said he also recommends people keep food for a couple of days and necessities on-hand in the event that they’re stuck inside.

Residents should also remember the three p’s — pets, pipes, plants. Move pets inside, cover plants and wrap pipes.
