Ominous clouds hang over the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, May 19, 2017, as severe weather moves into the area.

Check the skies before you leave the house this weekend because thunderstorms and rain are likely in the Killeen-Fort Hood area, according to the National Weather Service.

“The higher chances (for storms) are going to be (Saturday) and will continue into (tonight),” said Jason Goodwin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. “It doesn’t look like the severe potential is particularly high.”

He said there will be a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms Saturday.

Goodwin said there will be a 30 percent chance of rain Sunday.

“The Killeen area will see lingering thunderstorm chances on Sunday, though those chances will be less than on Saturday,” Goodwin said.

“Highs should be in the low 80s through the weekend, with low temperatures in the mid to upper 60s,” he said.
