A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon after she reportedly jumped from the Stillhouse Lake Road bridge into the water below.

The Bell County Sheriff's Office was on the scene first, reaching the victim using a civilian fishing boat, according to a news release from the Harker Heights Fire Department, which was dispatched at 3:23 p.m. with an ambulance, fire engine and rescue boat, as well as a medical helicopter.

The patient was taken from the water and brought to shore at the Cedar Gap Boat Dock, where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The woman, who was not identified, was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cook at 4:17 p.m., the release stated.
