Woman says public needs to learn proper service dog etiquette
Harker Heights resident Jackie Hollenbeck is seen with her service dog, Hersey, in front of her home Tuesday. Hollenbeck says she wants to educate area organizations and the public on proper service dog etiquette. Touching or distracting service dogs can put their handlers in danger, she said.
Hersey, a 7-year-old service dog, lies down in the front yard of his owner’s home Tuesday. While guards or staff members at a business can ask someone with a disability if their dog is a service animal, more in-depth questions can be a violation of rights, according to the federal government’s American with Disabilities Act website.
