A private family burial for Betty June Starkey, 90, of Mansfield, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Killeen Memorial Park.
Mrs. Starkey died Dec. 2, 2017, in Mansfield. She was born Sept. 1, 1927, to Irene Chapman Rhodes and Denver Carrigan in Alton, Ill., where she was raised and educated.
Mrs. Starkey retired as a voters registration officer for the Department of Voters Registration with the state of Florida. She took great pride in her work and loved her co-workers.
She served, at home, for 22 years alongside her husband, Chief Petty Officer Ernest M. “Bud” Starkey, retired U.S. Navy. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a compassionate volunteer for the Red Cross of America and Food Bank of Killeen. She loved to dance at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Harker Heights with her friends.
Mrs. Starkey was preceded in death by Ernest M. “Bud” Starkey, who was her high school sweetheart and husband of 53 years; by her adored grandson, “Timbo,” Timothy Alan Starkey II; her mother; father; brothers, Jack Carrigan and Howard Carrigan; and sister, Virginia Peregory.
Mrs. Starkey is survived by her loving children, Michael David Starkey and wife Dianna, Virginia Beach, Va.; SuAnne Thompson and husband Joe, Valdese, N.C.; Steven Scott Starkey and wife Carol, Bruce, MS; and Timothy Alan Starkey and wife Carol, Midlothian.
She also leaves behind five loving grandchildren, John Charlet, Jessica Starkey Forsythe, Earnest David Allen Starkey, Brandy Starkey Ware, Sean Starkey, and Tyler Starkey; 11 great-grandchildren; a niece, Carol Gaye Carn; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Mrs. Starkey had a full and wonderful life, and we will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or your local food bank.
