Funeral services for Bettye Sue Pruett, 77, of Kempner, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Kempner, with Pastor Preston Atkinson officiating. Private interment will follow at Copperas Cove City Cemetery.

Mrs. Pruett died Nov. 19, 2013, in Burleson. She was born Nov. 26, 1935, in Lampasas to the late Albert and Laura Vardiman Cowan. She graduated from Lampasas High School. She attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and graduated with a bachelor’s degree.

She was a music teacher for 35 years, teaching in Greenfield, Ind., Brushton, N.Y., Lampasas and Copperas Cove. She was a member of the Texas Music Education Association and a faithful member of Southern Hills Baptist Church.

She married Dale Pruett on Aug. 22, 1961, and they had 42 years together. She traveled the country at Dale Pruett’s side, while he preached at revivals and pastored churches. She was a talented organ player and piano player, musician and singer, often leading Bible studies for women and leading the choir. She loved art and enjoyed painting, producing several pieces for her family.

Mrs. Pruett was preceded is death by her husband; parents; and brother, W.A. Cowan.

Survivors include her sons, William Pruett and his wife, Donna, of Burleson and Wesley Pruett and his wife, Ruby, of Chula Vista, Calif,; granddaughter, Kerena Gonzalez; sister, Maureen Edwards of Seattle, Wash.; four nieces, Camilla Edwards, Julia Edwards of Seattle, Wash., Laura Edwards of Tucson, Ariz., and Lillian Kay Cowan of Austin; and one nephew, Harry Edwards of Seattle, Wash.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, which is in charge of arrangements.
