Funeral services for Billy Gene Johnson, 81, of Copperas Cove, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home in Harker Heights with Pastor Brian Cranfill officiating.

Mr. Johnson died Jan. 14, 2013. He was born July 13, 1931, to the late Harry M. and Zola L. (Cox) Johnson. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired as a staff sergeant. He then went to work for the city of Copperas Cove, and spent his final years as a referee for the Southwest Officials Association in Copperas Cove. He was very active in his church, Five Hills Assembly of God, and as a master commander of the boys group, Royal Rangers.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ruby (Sims) Johnson; and his brother, Harry Johnson Jr.

Survivors include his children, Darrel G. Johnson and his wife, Margie, of Georgia, Deborah Johnson and her husband, Hillman Hockett, of Lampasas and Doris Hutchins and her husband, Bernard (Hutch), of Copperas Cove; 10 grandchildren; 15½ great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Buhrmann.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home in Harker Heights.
