Services for retired 1st Sgt. Bobby Carl Graham, 79, of Copperas Cove, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Copperas Cove. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with military honors.
Mr. Graham died Aug. 28, 2013, after a lengthy health condition. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1977. He is also a retired correctional officer from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
After his retirement from the state, he loved to spend his time with family and friends.
He found great joy in taking part in the annual reunions of the Graham family, the 516th Engineer Company and of the Waco State Home, where he grew up.
During his military career, Mr. Graham served in units both stateside and in Germany, Austria, as well as serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.
In his 17-year career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, he worked at the Wynne and Hilltop units. He was an active member and supporter of local veterans’ organizations.
It was during an Army tour in Hanau, Germany, that Mr. Graham met his future wife, and his two sons were born.
When his next duty station took him and his family to Fort Hood, their daughter was born and they bought their family home in Copperas Cove, where his wife still resides.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Christa Maria Willig Graham; sons, Mike Graham of Copperas Cove and Ron Graham; daughter-in-law, Mendy Graham; grandson, Austin Graham of Kingwood; daughter, Diana Graham; daughter-in-law, Regina Nickison; grandson, Cheston Nickison and grandson, Joshua Nickison, of West Columbia, S.C.
Donations in Mr. Graham’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or a veterans’ organization of your choice.
