Private family services for Charles “Chuck” Darter, 71, of Harker Heights, will be held at a later date.

Mr. Darter died Nov. 19, 2017, in a local care facility. He was born Jan. 5, 1946, in Campbell, Mo., to Arlon Thomas and Allie Roberta (LaFerney) Darter.

Mr. Darter proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he was in the military band and played the cornet and french horn.

On Jan. 31, 1986, he married Barbara Riffel in New Braunfels. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Michigan State.

Mr. Darter worked in the field of information technology. He worked for Ford Motor Company from 1965 to 1970, he was the president of Computronics/First Community Services in Killeen from 1978 to 1986 and he also worked at RFD & Associates Inc. in Austin as a systems programmer/consultant from 1987 to 2011.

Mr. Darter was a member of Soldiers of the Cross Cowboy Fellowship in Nolanville, as well as an active member of Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3892, all in Harker Heights.

He also was an avid fisherman in Bend on the Colorado River. He had lived in the Central Texas area since 1967.

Mr. Darter was preceded in death by his father, Arlon Darter.

Mr. Darter will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara “BJ” Darter of Buffalo, N.Y., his mother, Roberta Darter of Campbell, Mo., and his three brothers: Jerry Darter of Campbell, Mo., Stanley Darter of Waterloo, Ill., and James Darter of New Madrid, Mo.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with the arrangements.
