Services for Charles Travis Walters, 82, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Walters died Jan. 28, 2018. He was born March 19, 1935, to Adolf and Effie Walters in Springville, Ala.

Mr. Walters joined the U.S. Army on June 17, 1952, to serve his country. While stationed in Japan, he met and married the love of his life, Toyoko. They were married for 61 years.

His duty stations included Alaska, Washington, Georgia, Iceland, Illinois, Fort Hood, two tours in Korea and Vietnam.

Mr. Walters retired on June 30, 1974, with a rank of master sergeant. The following month, he began his career as a police officer for the city of Killeen. He proudly served until Jan. 31, 1997.

Mr. Walters loved to camp and fish with Toyoko. His favorite place was the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, but spent time in many of the beautiful areas around Texas. He loved it when friends and family would join them.

Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Adolf, James and Chriss, his sister Lucille.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Toyoko; daughter Terrie and husband John; son Richard; and five grandchildren, John Reavis, Travis, Abby, Kelsi and Scott.
