Memorial services for Clifton Ellis Young Sr. (Cliff) will be at noon today at Chisolm’s Family Funeral Home in Killeen with the Rev. Richard W. Payne officiating. A private family interment will be at a later date.
Mr. Young died Oct. 17, 2013, at Fort Hood. He was born Saturday, Aug. 18, 1962, in Killeen to Mildred Young and the late Horace Young Sr. and he was the younger sibling of Horace Young Jr.
Cliff graduated from Killeen’s Ellison High School. He attended Central Texas College briefly, and several years later began working with a company on government contracts on Fort Hood.
During that period he met and began dating a soldier, Sheila Dawson. Clifton married Sheila on July 1, 1986. They were married for 26 years. From this marriage, they had two children, Constance Young, 26, and Clifton Young Jr. In 1989, Clifton and his family moved to Akron, Ohio. He attended Akron Adult Vocation School where he graduated from the Business Machine Repair training. Shortly after training, he secured an electronic repair position at Dara Toy Company of Macedonia, Ohio, and worked there for over 18 years. Cliff was ultimately promoted to a field operations manager position and was transferred to Columbus, Ohio, where he managed the Columbus Metropolitan, Toledo and West Virginia areas.
Cliff loved to laugh. It was once said that Cliff’s laugh was so hearty that it was as if he was being tickled. He also loved his family. As his children were growing up, he was considered the neighborhood dad, playing softball, football and racing, not only with his own children, but with the children of the neighborhood, to the point that children knocked on his door asking if he would come out to play. Cliff loved to entertain. He was always “down” for barbecuing, or making a pot of homemade gumbo for anyone who came to visit.
Clifton Ellis Young Sr.’s spirit left this earth on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred Young of Killeen; children, Constance Young of Columbus, Ohio, and Clifton Young Jr. of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Chance, Mangum of Columbus, Ohio and Justiz Mangum of Columbus, Ohio; ex-wife, Sheila Young of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; brother, Horace Young, of Killeen; uncle, James Jones of Houston; aunt, Dr. Anita Spivey of Houston; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
