A graveside service for Kenneth Albert “Ken or Smiley” Schwab, 69, of Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Texas and Massachusetts, will be at 9 a.m. today at the Cemetery for Congregation B’Nai Abraham in Hagerstown, Md.

Mr. Schwab died July 27, 2013, at his residence. He was born June 9, 1944, in Monroe, La., to the late Curtis Albert and Nellie Maude Boyter Schwab. He was the husband of Barbara Susan Gordon Schwab, his wife of 40 years.

Mr. Schwab was a disabled veteran from the U.S. Army serving active duty with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company during the Vietnam War and later serving on posts across the U.S. in communications. Later, he served in a civilian capacity for the Army.

He was a member of Congregation B’Nai Abraham in Hagerstown.

Kenneth was a member of Disabled American Veterans and past commander of the Jewish War Veterans, MetroWest Post 157 in Framingham, Mass. Likewise, he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Schwab enjoyed bowling and bowled for the Army bowling team at Fort Monmouth, N.J. He also enjoyed computers and electronics.

Survivors include his wife; his sons, Jeffrey M. Schwab of Queens, N.Y., and Stephen D. Schwab and his wife, Candace, of Germantown, Md.; grandson, Caleb Ray Schwab; and sisters, Cathy Taylor and her husband, Charles, and Bettye Mitchell and her husband, Chris, all of Shreveport, La.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Schwab’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
