Lawrence Monroe Adams

Memorial services for Lawrence “Larry” M. Adams, 60, of Kempner, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Kempner.

Mr. Adams died Dec. 8, 2013. He was born Feb. 9, 1953, to Nathan and Doris Haynes Adams in Wichita Falls.

They moved to Ogdensburg, N.Y., where he completed high school in 1972. On Aug. 19, 1972, he married Betty Jane Stevenson in New York.

Mr. Adams joined the U.S. Army in November 1975, and served 20 years before retiring. While serving, he was stationed in Germany and Korea.

After he retired, he began his second career driving a truck, which he loved. He also loved to watch NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers. When Mr. Adams wasn’t on the road, he enjoyed his family at Southern Hills Baptist Church where he and Betty were both baptized on their 40th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Wilson in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Adams; his father, Nathan Adams and his wife, Louise; children, Melissa Young and her husband, James, of Killeen, Marney Garza and her husband, Steven, of San Benito and Steven Adams and his wife, April, of Oceanside, Calif.; sister, Bonnie Keller and her husband, Carl “Bud,” of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Tyler Young, Brittani Young, Karrie Garza and Zackary Adams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Hills Baptist Church.
