A celebration of life service for Lonnie Cicero Henderson Sr., 92, a native Texan, was held Friday at Lawler Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Smith and Rev. Stephen Watson officiating.

Mr. Henderson died Sept. 3, 2013. He was born on a cold New Year’s Day in 1921, in Pittsburgh to the late Goldon Cicero and Hattie Rhodes Henderson.

Graduating high school in 1939, as the valedictorian of Avenger High School, he went on to attend Howard Payne University. While at Howard Payne, Lonnie met and married the love of his life, Ruth King, on June 1, 1941, at the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Mr. Henderson served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the latter part of World War II.

He worked for Walter Tips Co. in Austin from 1961 to 1992, when he retired after 30 years of service.

Lonnie and Ruth were active members in church work wherever they lived. They became active members at Lawler Baptist Church in 1985, and he served as a Deacon until his death.

He had a deep faith in the Lord and it carried him through and gave him strength along his 92 years. He brought countless joys to those around him and will be truly missed.

Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his parents, Goldon and Hattie Henderson; his wife of more than 65 years, Ruth K. Henderson in 2006; and his daughter-in-law, Maria Henderson in 2002.

Survivors include his loving sons, Lonnie C. Henderson Jr. and Rodney Henderson; three grandchildren, Stacy Henderson and her husband, Steven Kirkpatrick, Lonnie Cole Henderson and his wife, Tracy Haywood, and Craig Henderson and his wife, Toni Migliavacca; his half-brother, Roger Henderson; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

The Gabriels Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Georgetown is in charge of arrangements. Offer condolences at www.gabrielsfuneral.com.
