A private family graveside service for Dennis Doyle Bradford, 85, of Copperas Cove, was held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Mr. Bradford died Feb. 5, 2018, with family by his side. He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Minter to John and Agnes Bradford.
He grew up in Paris, Texas, where he attended school before joining the U.S. Army in 1950. On Nov. 8, 1952, Mr. Bradford married Joyce Ruble in North Vernon, Ind. She supported him throughout his many military assignments. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Sgt. 1st Class Bradford retired after serving 22 years in the Army. After his military retirement, he worked for many years for the Copperas Cove and Killeen School Districts. He enjoyed maintaining the football fields and interacting with the students. Mr. Bradford also maintained the safety of many students’ transportation to and from school and to many sporting events.
Mr. Bradford was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted family man who accepted everybody who walked through the door as his own. Mr. Bradford, his loving wife, Joyce, and their three children moved to Copperas Cove in 1968.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce; his son, Dennis Bradford II and his wife, Barbara, of Blanco; his two daughters, Catherine Bradford and Angela Andruschek and her husband, Lloyd, both of Copperas Cove; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He will be missed greatly, but the loving impression he placed on everyone will never be forgotten.
