Funeral services for Hazel N. Whitley, 95, of Killeen, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Killeen City Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitley died Jan. 28, 2013, after a brief illness. She grew up with her two younger sisters and loving parents, Tom F. and Pearl Mayberry, in Purmela.

She married her childhood friend, Harold “Red” Whitley, and moved to Killeen in 1948, where she raised two adoring children, Tommy and Jerry Whitley.

Among her many achievements and admirable qualities, Mrs. Whitley was a farmer, high school valedictorian, captain of the basketball team, successful businesswoman, dedicated community volunteer, election judge for more than 30 years, talented gardener and floral designer, world traveler, original member of the Dancing Grannies and devoted parishioner.

Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband and sisters.

Survivors include Tommy and Jerri of Killeen, Jerry and Betty of Seguin, her grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Ave., New York, NY 10018.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
