Monty Dewight Dewald

Monty Dewight Dewald, age 79 a lifetime resident of Copperas Cove passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 peacefully at his home.

Monty was born August 20, 1937 in Copperas Cove to the late Lora Sue (Smith) Dewald and JR (Joy) Dewald.

Monty attended and graduated Copperas Cove High School with the Class of 1955 and was a proud Copperas Cove "Bulldog". He went on to attend Temple Junior College where he received his Associates degree and later went to Southwest Texas Teachers College (Texas State University) in San Marcos earning his degree in Physical Education with a Minor in Science.

This allowed Monty to return to Copperas Cove and coach Football, Basketball, and Golf. He coached the Bi-District Championship Basketball Team, during his time as a coach at Copperas Cove.

He later left education to join his family in the Construction Business where they opened and operated Dewald Lumber Company.

He was a lifetime builder, land developer and Rental Property Owner along with his late brother, Leon "Shotgun" Dewald.

Monty had many enjoyments in life none more than the love of his life Jacquelyn (Jones) Dewald who he would have celebrated 61 years of marriage with on July 20, 2017.

His hobbies included, team roping, hunting in West Texas with his family, fishing, wildlife photography, golf and playing the Native American Flute.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and twin grandchildren, Devin and Conner.

He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn Dewald of Copperas Cove, three sons, DeWight Dewald of Copperas Cove, Derrick Dewald and his wife Debbie of Kempner, Devin Dewald of Copperas Cove; six grandchildren, Dillon and wife Erin of Ft. Worth, Tanner and wife Sarah of Georgetown, Dixon Dewald of Pearl, Jacob Dewald and wife Justine of Kempner, Marlee Dewald of Kempner, Claire Dewald of Copperas Cove; six great-grandsons, Justice, Jackson, Hunter, River, Jace, Jameson and two great granddaughters, Jayden and Greer and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove with Pastor Kissa Vaughn officiating.

Pallbeares will be his grandchildren and Mike Chandler. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Dewald, John Dewald, Steve Jones, Danny Jones and Sam Jones.

Interment services will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
