Services for Jack Emil Smith Sr., 90, of Copperas Cove, are pending at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Mr. Smith died Jan. 19, 2018, at a Copperas Cove nursing home. He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Smith was raised in Rudy, Ark. He moved to Copperas Cove in 1962. He retired from the U.S. Army and served at the Fort Hood Fire Department, where he was known as “Snuffy.”
Mr. Smith enjoyed spending time with his family, growing pecans, walking around his neighborhood on South Ninth Street, and football. He earned a master’s degree in criminal science at Central Texas College.
Mr. Smith and his wife, Edna, enjoyed going to gun shows, where he showed and sold pocket watches and knives.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edna Earl Smith; son, Michael Smith; parents, Thomas and Rosa Smith; brothers, Jimmy and Bobby; and sisters, Jessie and Ina.
Mr. Smith leaves his cherished memories to his children, Faytha Holmen and husband John of Kempner, Allen Smith and wife Peggy of Arlington, Mark Smith, David Smith and wife Cindy, Jack Smith Jr. and wife Larissa, Thomas Smith of Copperas Cove; sister, Katherine Hughes of Rudy, Ark.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
